War diaries, many of which are still preserved by the family members of veterans, are keys to reconstruct a reliable account of the events. This was made ​​clear on Thursday at Espai Orígens, Josep Pla, columnist and expert in the study of this conflict.

The centre screened the documentary Transmissions, as new activity to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the events of the bridgehead of Balaguer. Transmissions, Memoirs of Lluís Sala tells the story in first person of a 97 years old man resident of Callús (Bages), one of the last survivors of the Spanish Civil War.

Indeed audiovisual served to introduce the topic of the later discussion, which revolved around the importance of particular oral and written documentation when shaping the history of the Spanish Civil War. In this sense, the director of the documentary, the historian Jordi Algué has made ​​it clear that in this study wanted to “avoid a bit of classic research to value the story of Lluís Sala” which is his grandfather.

Meanwhile, the director Nuria Campabadal said that “we need the involvement of public institutions for the recovery of historical memory.” In fact, this is one of the conclusions expressed in the documentary, which discusses historical memory processes carried out in our country. The experiences of Lluís Sala, who was one of the fighters in the front battle of Aragon, Teruel, Segre (Merengue) and the Ebro, among others, serve to pay tribute to the pioneers of the recovery of Civil War events in the 70s and 80s.

With the screening of the film, on Thursday, closes the series of activities that have been organized to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the events of Balaguer’s bridgehead which are parallel to the temporary exhibition Conviure amb la por (1938) that will be open until February.
